1. 选题的背景
随着改革开放和中国近几十年来的迅速发展,选择到国外度假的中国人日益增多,同时,越来越多的外国人也背起行囊来到中国,感受拥有五千年文明和历史风韵的东方大国。旅游业的蓬勃发展带动了中外人民各个层面的交流。交流离不开语言,旅游翻译成了一把双刃剑。可靠规范的旅游翻译不仅体现了旅游景点的微观文化内涵和特色,又方便了游客更好的认识和了解本民族外的风土人情,对一个民族形象的塑造功不可没。反之,旅游翻译的词不达意对旅游行业的负面影响也是显而易见的。
With the reform and opening up and Chinas rapid development in recent decades, the number of the Chinese people who choose to go on holiday abroad is increasing. At the same time, more and more foreigners packing up their luggage come to China in order to feel the charm of the great oriental country possessing civilization and history of five thousand years. Tourism boom contributes a lot to the exchange of Chinese and foreign people at all levels. Exchange goes nowhere without language, thus tourist translation is a double-edged sword. Standardized and reliable translation is not only the reflection of the content and features of the micro-culture attractions, but also helps tourists to have a better knowledge and understanding of the nations customs, which is powerful to the shaping of the image of a nation. On the contrary, negative impact of improper tourism translation on the tourism industry is obvious.
2.选题的意义及论文的基本内容
为了让世界更了解中国,也为了让中国看到世界,旅游翻译扮演着一个至关重要的角色。作为旅游翻译的基本,景点名称的译法也备受关注。景点名称翻译应具有指导性和美感。所以,景点名称翻译不应该只是语言之间的转换,而应该是文化层面的诠释。本文在目的性功能翻译理论和信,达,雅原则的指导下,主要研究外国景点名称的汉译和中国景点名称的英译的具体翻译方法。中国名胜古迹的名称翻译一直是旅游翻译中的难点问题。一方面,中国旅游景点名称涉及到许多文化背景,历史典故,兼具音韵,意象,寓意等特点,看似简约,但翻译起来却不简单;另一方面,关于景点名称方面,理论研究不足,缺乏统一的标准衡量翻译的准确性和合理性。虽然近年来一些学者也开始发表文章,探讨旅游景点名称的翻译问题,但大多都是引用西方翻译理论,避开具体的解决方法,这些研究对于中国景点名称的翻译,针对性不强,显得力不从心。在具体实践过程中,译者常常感到无所适从,导致中国旅游景点名称的翻译五花八门,漏洞百出。针对这一现状,在外国景点名称汉译和中国景点名称英译两方面,本文更侧重探讨中国景点名称的英译策略。本文意在为译者翻译景点名称时提供具体操作策略。
To let the world know more about China and enable Chinese to see further of the world, tourist translation indeed plays a crucial role. As the basis of tourism translation, translation on the names of attractions obtain the publics great attention. Name translation of traveling sites should have the function of guidance and be full of elegance as well. Therefore, the key of such translation is not simply the conversion between languages, but is the interpretation at the cultural level. Under the guidance of the 'purpose' functional translation theory and the principle of faithfulness, expressiveness, elegance, the paper focuses on the study of concrete name translation methods: the English translation of attractions in China and the Chinese translation of foreign place of interests. The name of the translation on the Chinese historical sites has been always a difficult problem in tourism translation mainly for two reasons. First of all, the name of Chinas tourist attractions involves many cultural backgrounds, historical allusions, as well as the unique characteristics of rhyme, imagery, meaning, in which the words seems very simple, but the translation is not easy. Second,the theory on the name translation of sightseeing places is insufficient and uniform standards to measure the accuracy and reasonableness of the translation is also unavailable. In recent years, although some scholars have begun to publish articles to explore the problem of attractions name translation, but most of them take Western translation theory as reference and do not offer any specific method to deal with name translation. When these researches are applied to the translation of Chinas attractions, it appears to be inadequate. In translation practice, the translator often become confused, causing the inconsistency of name translation of the tourist attractions in China , full of loopholes. Taking this into consideration, between the English translation of the names on attractions in China and the Chinese translation of the names on foreign attractions, the paper give much priority to the former. This article intends to provide specific strategies for translating the name of place of interests.
